Issaquah Alps hikes January 6, 9:30 a.m., The Boulders, Class 2-B, Leader: Mary Cadigan 641-4046. In the Valley of Cougar Mt. Wilderness Creek lie house-sized chunks of andesite which tumbled off the cliffs above. A short climb up to Big View Cliss is worth the effort and on a crystal clear day you can see Mt. Rainier. January 8, 8:30 a.m., Squak Mt. Hi-Liters, Class 3 plus B, Leader: George Jackman 641-2895. The most popular way up Squak is the Thrush Gap route and includes such hi-lites as the Old Tie Mill, Stringer Trestle, Block House and stone fireplace of the Bullit Mansion. Return trip includes the new Grizzly Trail. A spectacular view at the Summit. January 9, 12:30 p.m., Coal Creek, Class 2-C, Leader: Steve Williams 232-8072. Steve plans to start this hike in the undeveloped County Park at the eastside of the Coal Creek Parkway, upstream to the Scalzo Farm. Boots recommended.
