Hartman chosen Liberty softball BY BOB TAYLOR Brian Hartman will be changing diamonds this spring. After seven years as Liberty High's junior-var- sity baseball coach, Hartman is shifting over to become the girls fastpitch softball coach. Liberty athletic director George Vanni made the announcement of Hartman's new appointment last Thursday. Hartman, also the boys head tennis coach, replaces Kara Kostoff, who resigned last fall because she is pregnant with her first child. Kostoff coached the Patriots the past three seasons, directing the team to the state tournament each time. Liberty compiled a 19-9 record last spring. The Patriots were Kingco regular- season champions in 2002. "I think Brian will do a real good job," Vanni said. "He's an energetic guy who works real well with kids. He's also in the building, which I think is important." Hartman has taught social stud- ies at Liberty for eight years, and coached tennis for four. Hartman also was an assistant coach in foot- ball for two seasons. "I've worn a lot of different hats at Liberty.," Hartman really excited.
