Pelage hair stylists are among Issaquah's best Pelage hair stylists Carolanne Baccari and Zoriana Schaefer are among the best in Issaquah. And their salon at Pelage in Gilman Village is one of the most relaxing spas to visit for some pampering, too. Pelage services also include massage and skin care. Carolanne and Zoriana have been styling hair for 20 years and are proud to offer an environment that is pleasant, peaceful and pri- vate. They specialize in custom de- signer cuts, color, foils, relaxers, thermal straighteners, hair textur- izing (perms), and quality hair ex- tensions to add length or fullness. In spite of their high credentials, they offer very competitive prices. "Over the past 10 years, Car- olanne has become a friend, pro- viding hair care for our three generations -- my morn, myself and our high school-age daughter Kimmy," says Carolyn McGarvey, owner of Northwest Playgrounds. "On several special occasions, such as the tolo or prom, Car- olanne has gone out of her way to provide the special finishing touch for that special day. Customers also appreciate knowing that their stylists under- stand the latest trends. Zoriana explains that the latest trends are what you see on the stars on TV and in magazines. She and Car- olanne keep up to date by attend- ing classes and hair shows that come to the area and abroad. Zo- riana attends the national hair show in Las Vegas and Carolanne attends a show in Toronto, en- abling them to give clients an up- dated look from time to time. Zoriana says all styles come and go, but always come back with a little edge. They ,take into consid- eration the client s hair type, tex- ture, face structure and lifestyle to determine the best style and color for that particular client. "I love the time Carolanne takes to discuss my hair needs, from cuts to color and changes. After my appointment, I feel great," said long-time client Sue Mattingly. Both stylists offer a free consulta- tion for new clients, to discuss their likes and dislikes and to achieve a look created just for them. "We want our clients to leave 100 percent satisfied with the service they receive at Pelage, and feel good about themselves! That is our goal," said Zoriana. Hair appointments are offered weekdays, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. "I like to set a time that is just for you," said Carolanne. "Your appointment has my full attention to make sure you are satisfied. There is no rushing your appoint- ment." Crimaldi's just opened two months ago and is al- ready getting a following of customers looking for a comfortable place to meet, work and hang out day and night. Grimaldi's is all that, but keeps customers coming back for high quality coffee and teas, pastries, panini sandwiches, salads and the only gehto in all of Issaquah! Soon they will offer beer and wine, too. "The inspiration for Grimaldi's is traditional, but almost everything else about us is unique," said Ste- fano Gaudiano, one of the partner owners. "The peo- ple who work here, the carefully selected foods and drinks, our business principles, our building and in- terior design are all unique." Stefano says even the location at Gilman Village is "one of the most wonderful human and commercial environments we could possibly have hoped for. "Our love of Italy's best coffee bars and the unique qualities of Gilman Village have combined to create Grimaldi's." The owners expect Grimaldi's will quickly become the place where friends gather for the music, arts and cultural performances and events that will hap- pen here. They also have Wi-Fi for customer conven- ience. "We are providing quality, convenience, and at- mosphere to make a city we love a bit livelier and more connected," said Stefano. "The purpose of our coffee house is about com- munity even more than caffeine -- al- though good caffeine is a nice perk!" Grimaldi's coffee is roasted locally by Dave Stewart, owner of Vista Clara Coffee and original owner of Seattle's Best. Stefano says the coffee is on par with the best beans he can find in Italy, with all the flavor but no bitterness. Shirey Handyman offers design choices in your home improvement projects In the midst of the current economic downturn, people are tightening their wallets and putting off the de- cision to purchase or build a new home. In- stead they are concen- trating on making in- vestments in their cur- rent home. Small remodels are an appealing option for homeowners on a budget who are look- ing to do a little bit at a time. Making upgrades to an outdated bathroom is a great place to start and can make a big difference in the first impression of a home. However, even "small" remodels can have unforeseen costs that add up, a fact that un- doubtedly discourages many homeowners from taking on such home improvement projects all to- gether. Shirey Handyman, a local com- pany that provides small remodel- H Bath cabinets used in the Simple Solutions collections, by Strasser Woodenworks. ing, repair and main- tenance services, rec- ognizes that these un- expected costs are a big obstacle for peo- ple and have devel- oped a way to help economize one of the most common home improvement activi- ties. They've created a line of pro-designed bathroom packages called Simple Solu- tions that give home- owners a quality up- grade without the costs associated with custom design. Designed by Autumn Donavan Design of Redmond, the options include contemporary, traditional, or environmentally-friendly design collections, all of which incorpo- rate handpicked combinations of everything from countertops to tub enclosures to light fixtures. "Our clients benefit in a number of ways," says general manager April Bettinger. "It takes the guesswork out of the process. They know what it will cost. They know that it will have a quality look. And they know how long it will take." The pro-designed packages work with a home's existing layout and incorporate pro-selected products and materials to create an up-to- date bathroom in just seven to 10 days. Design elements in each pack- age include vanity, sink, mirror, tub enclosure and faucetry, flooring ma- terial, countertop, light fixtures and a variety of accessories. For homeowners wondering if such investments will pay off down the road, a study releasedin December offers some confidence, proving that remodeling projects are holding their value despite drops in home prices across the country. Remodeling Magazine's 2008 Cost vs. Value Report states that Seattle and other Pacific Coast cities have had the best payback on remodeling projects, with an average cost-recouped percentage 14.8 percent higher than in the rest of the country. "It's important to remember that your home is your number one as- set," adds Bettinger. "These days, investing in home improvements is one of the safest bets out there."
