Eagles FROM PAGE C1 Eastlake, one of the better shooting teams in the league this year, averaging 42 percent from the field, missed easy shots and fell apart on offense at times. Martinez led Eastlake scorers with 11 points, while teammate Hannah Ostic had seven. Issaquah's Blaire Brady and Alexa Smith each finished with eight points. "I just hope this is a sign of us maturing on the court," Gib- son said. "We're going to need to. We need them to be able to be confident and make the right decisions when they're out on the court." "We had to give a good effort to come out here and win and it was good to see everyone come together and play well tonight," Zuhl said. The key for Issaquah was capitalizing on transition and second-chance points. Eastlake struggled to contain the Eagles between possessions and failed to defend against the offensive rebounds. "They were pressuring and crashing the boards hard, and getting a few second shots," said Eastlake senior forward Turner Lee.."They had a really good tran- sition game, which is one of the main rea- sons they got the W tonight." Lee finished with 14 points and team- mate Michael Russo had 11, well below his per-game average of 17.4. Issaquah's Robby Primrose had 14 points. "A game like this can go in a matter of 30 seconds, boom boom," Eastlake head coach Pat Bangasser said. "Transition buckets was the difference for (Issaquah) in the second half." After leading 15-13 at the end of the first, Issaquah took charge and held a 6- to 8-point lead throughout. Had Eastlake been able to penetrate Issaquah's defense more often, it would have had a much bet- ter chance at victory, due to the help from the free-throw fine -- both Lee and Russo shot 8-for-8 from the line. "We've gotta get the ball inside," Ban- gasser said. "We feel that we're a better team when we do what we call 'violate the key." Eastlake came off a 75-60 win over Newport Jan. 23, which marked the team's first victory in what Bangasser said was the beginning of a new season, men- tally. "We kind of started our season over, mentally, on Thursday," Bangasser said. "We said, 'We're 0-0 and we've got eight games left,' and now we're 1-1 in our book."
