Local players on title teams Several local players competed on the four Eastside FC soccer teams that recently captured Washington Youth Soccer state Challenge Cup championships. Playing on the U-18 FC Red team were Quinn Grisham, Josh Twaddle, Edgar Esquival, DJ Bech- tel, Larry Schneider, and Cody Tip- ton. The team defeated Emerald City FC Green 2-1. The U-17 FC Red team that topped the Whatcom FC Rangers Gold 4-1 included Michael Alex- son, Lucas De Morals, Mitchell Kim and Brian Schwartz. Alan Yu, Ryan Wolfe, Colton Perry and Ryan Newman played on the U-16 FC White team that edged Emerald City 2-1. The U-15 Eastside FC White team topped the Federal Way Storm 1-0. Playing for FC White were Evan Botsch, Garrett diCillia, Aaron Ferrell, Barron Gilmore, Paul Spears and Zach Lawless. Skyline grad earns silver Skyline High School graduate Brandon Graef, who competes for Idaho State University's track and field team, won the silver medal in the heptathlon competition at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. He also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. Uberty grad places in pentathlon Kara Bennett, a Liberty High School graduate, placed eighth for Stanford University's track and field team in the indoor pentathlon at the MPSF Meet. Bennett accumulated 3,341 points. Her best event in the pen- tathlon was the high jump where she took second at five-feet, seven inches Local grads spark BCC men Issaquah High graduates Matt Lapsasin and Bren Hobzek, and Skyline High graduate Sean Day played on the Bellevue Community College men's basketball team that finished fourth in the NWAACC Tournament. Lapasin had a team-high 15 points and Hobzek nine points when the Bulldogs defeated Linn- Benton 76-53 in a first-round con- test. Lapasin also had 13 points and Hobzek seven points when BCC lost to Yakima Valley 79-67. Prior to the tournament, BCC captured the NWAACC North Divi- sion title with a 12-2 record. In the final contest of the season, a 101-81 victory against Seattle Central, Lapsasin had 10 points, Hobzek and Day each had four points. BCC finished the year with a 27- 6 record.
