Issaquah Sports Rich Hallstrom Runners close to the top The Indians went up against the best team in King Co. and showed them that the Indians aren't far away from the top in a 70-66 (boys) 78-45 (girls) loss to Mercer Is- land. Softball The Indians began the sea- son on a down note by losing to Liberty 7-5 despite a 3 for 3 performance from Kristal Orni. The Indians problems continued later in the week with a loss to Lindbergh 17-2 due to numerous field errors. Girls' soccer Lucy Matzner led the way with three goals as the Indi- ans rolled over Newport 4-0 to gain their first Kingco vic- tory of the season. The In- dians began the season with a 2-1 loss to Interlake but they showed the same quick pass- ing attack that allowed them to win Kingco in 1980. Baseball The Indians began the sea- son by losing to Tahoma, one of the top teams in AA, 8-6.
