Section of Press I I Bellevue Paint & Decorating, Inc. has been serving the Eastside for the past 21 years. The store in Sammamish Highlands shopping center was added to the family- owned business in 2005. The Sammamish store carries the full line of products found at th fiiei, three locations, including Benjamin Moore paints and stains, Sikkens and Cabots stains, and a complete line of paint supplies. Two products highly touted by Bellevue Paint & Decorating are the "green" lines by Benjamin Moore. The AuraTM is a self-prim- ing, low volatile organic compound (VOC) paint, and the new line, Nat- uraTM, is a zero VOC paint. "Natura is the greenest and safest product produced by Ben- jamin Moore. It has premium per- formance, so it's "green without compromise," said Mariah Stark, Bellevue store manager. It is waterbourne paint, virtu- ally odorless, dries fast and has excellent adhesion, providing a durable finish with an unlimited color selection. They're the finest paints ever made," said Stark. Stark says their store employees are trained annually on the product lines by the suppliers. With their continually-updated knowledge base of each product, Stark said employ- ees can help home owners choose the right paint for each project. With decades of experience in the painting and staining business, Stark said Bellevue Paint & Deco- rating has a "top 10" list to keep in mind for each home project: 1 -- Always paint the ceiling first. 2 -- Make sure the area being painted is well ventilated. 3 -- Use the right sheen for the right area, such as a satin finish for the bathroom or kitchen. 4 -- Test the color before starting. 5 -- Wait for the test color to dry, remembering it will dry darker than when first applied. 6 -- Use the right brush for the right paint, such as natural bristles for oil paint and nylon/polyester brush for water-based paints. 7 -- Use the right roller cover for the right texture on the wall. The rule of thumb is the smoother the surface, the shorter the nap, or length of fabric that sticks up from the backing. 8 -- Prepare the surface for painting. 9 -- Dispose of paint correctly. Oil-based paint take to hazardous material disposable locations and latex paint mix with a waste hard- ener, cat litter or sawdust. 10 -- And when in doubt, don't guess.
